  • BI inspects ISPSC's readiness for accreditation to accept foreign students

Santa Maria, IS: Three representatives from the Bureau of Immigration have visited the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) for the inspection of the faculty and facility readiness as part of the latter’s plan to apply for accreditation to accept foreign students, May 9, 2019.

Mr. Rodrigo Del Mundo, Mr. Vic Cardenas, and Admin. Officer Jomar Pascua from the BI Ilocos Sur evaluated the documents of Santa Maria Campus’ College of Agriculture, Forestry and Engineering (CAFE), College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS), and the College of Business Management and Entrepreneurship (CBME), and the physical plants and facilities as part of the initial step towards the accreditation that ISPSC is aiming for before it can open its doors to the international arena.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Francisco N. Divina, Campus Administrator, expressed his gratefulness to the bureau for coming to evaluate the readiness of the institution [to undergo accreditation] in order to accept foreign students. He said, ISPSC’s [goal for BI] accreditation is the President’s vision towards internationalization, and with the approval of the BI, the institution can achieve this goal, responding to the challenges of ASEAN integration and borderless education.

In his inspirational message, on the other hand, SUC III President, Dr. Francisco D. Lopez reiterated that the initiative is one of the institutional strategies for internationalization, and, hopefully, after some time, with the accreditation, this goal will be realized.

Comm. Del Mundo, in his speech, cited various areas by which the institution may focus on for the accreditation, particularly mentioning the system for registration of foreign students, guideliness for security, safety, and accommodation, and the mechanisms for ensuring the validity of the students’ documents, among others. He, then, mentioned recommending the institution for accreditation.

In turn, ISPSC, headed by the President, has signified its commitment to comply with the necessary requirements to be able to pass the accreditation.

In an interview with Mrs. Annabelle B. Francisco, the institution’s internationalization officer, she said,“we really want the accreditation... hopefully, the soonest time possible, we will be able to accept foreign students.” She added that ISPSC’s accreditation to accept foreign students is an honor but also entails so much responsibility. When asked about her insight if ISPSC is already ready to this challenge, “You cannot tell [that] you are ready until you are there. Being ready is a work in progress everyday,” she answered.

Said BI inspection initiative is a collaborative effort of the Internationalization Office and the Office of the Registrar. (Noel L. Llamar, PRPIO)
