  • ISPSC student leaders champion open governance at OGPinas! campaign

La Union, Philippines –In a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in local governance, student leaders from the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) participated in the La Union leg of the OGPinas! nationwide advocacy campaign on October 8, 2024.
The event, spearheaded by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary and Philippine Open Government Partnership (PH-OGP) Chairperson Amenah F. Pangandaman, drew more than 300 attendees from national and local governments, civil society organizations, and educational institutions across Region I.
ISPSC was represented by its student leaders, headed by Hon. Alvin Tobias, the Student Trustee, who articulated the college’s commitment to the principles of open governance. The gathering emphasized the importance of citizen participation, with Secretary Pangandaman urging local governments, including State Universities and Colleges, to embrace the OGP values.
The ISPSC community commits itself to strengthening a culture of participation and oversight, echoing the values promoted during the OGPinas! campaign. Student leaders emphasized the importance of involving young people in decision-making processes that affect their lives and communities. With the youth at the forefront, there is a renewed hope for a future where citizens are not just recipients of government services, but active partners in good governance.
As the campaign continues, ISPSC leaders are determined to implement initiatives that promote open governance principles within their school and the broader community, ensuring that the voices of the youth are heard and valued in the ongoing dialogue about transparency and civic engagement.#
