ISPSC holds historic Special Consultative Meeting with CHED Commissioner Shirley C. Agrupis

For the first time in its history, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) held a Special Consultative Meeting with a Commissioner from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The meeting was made even more significant by the fact that CHED Commissioner Shirley C. Agrupis, also the Chair of the ISPSC Board of Trustees, hails from the Ilocos region, making her connection to the institution both meaningful and relatable.

The event was attended by key members of the ISPSC Administrative Council. Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President, opened the meeting by delivering a warm welcome message to Commissioner Agrupis and all those present.

The meeting began with Dr. Dominador A. Ayson, Jr., Vice President for Finance and Administration, presenting a comprehensive profile of the university. In his presentation, he highlighted ISPSC's milestones, its administrative and financial operations, and its significant role in advancing higher education.

Following this, Dr. Anna Marie D. Barroga, Vice President for Academic Affairs, shared the Academic Agenda for 2025, highlighting plans for curriculum enhancement, faculty development, and student-centered initiatives.

Dr. Anabelle B. Francisco, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Internationalization, followed with a comprehensive presentation on the Research and Extension Agenda for 2025. She emphasized the institution’s ongoing projects and the commitment to expanding its research endeavors.

Dr. Emed F. Manzano, Quality Assurance Director, also presented the institution’s Systemwide Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT), which laid the foundation for discussions on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for ISPSC as it aims to achieve university status.

Commissioner Agrupis, with her wealth of experience and expertise, provided invaluable insights and constructive criticisms on the presentations. She also engaged with the council members in an open forum, where she answered questions and offered guidance on how ISPSC can continue to elevate its programs and services.

As the meeting neared its adjournment, Dr. Ferrer made a sincere pledge to lead ISPSC in implementing the plans and suggestions discussed in collaboration with the whole ISPSC community. She emphasized the institution's commitment to achieving its vision of universityhood with the guidance of Dr. Agrupis.

The meeting was a milestone in ISPSC’s journey towards excellence, and the strong partnership between the college and Commissioner Agrupis promises to further strengthen the institution’s capacity to provide quality education in Ilocos Region.
