Abstract
The main objective of this study is to identify the subject matters in teaching the subject Contextualized Communication in Filipino that will serve as a basis in multimodal teaching. This study used two survey questionnaires in the gathering of data: The first survey questionnaire determined the perceived importance of the topics to be taught in the multimodal teaching strategy, and it was answered by the seven (7) professors who taught Kontekstwalisadong Komunikasyon sa Filipino (KOMFIL) course during the first semester of Academic Year 2018 – 2019. The second survey questionnaire determined the content validity of the designed syllabus for the KOMFIL subject. The study discovered that essential topics were divided into four chapters., listed in a descending order of importance: (1) Chapter 3, Current Issues in Local and National; (2) Chapter 4, Specific Situations in Communication; (3) Chapter 2, Nature of Communication, Activities and the Different Processes of Information in Communication; and (4) Chapter 1, Language, National Language and It’s Importance in Education. These topics were reflected in the designed syllabus which has been validated by experts in the field. Chapters 3 and 4 focused on multimodality in teaching. These topics are taught with related videos and materials that are very much suited for students with multiple intelligences, such as kinesthetic, aural, visual and tactile. The study also determined that the designed syllabus for KOMFIL has high validity; hence, it is recommended for instruction in the Academic Year 2019 – 2020 to cope with the new trends of education.
