Abstract

This study illustrates the level of human interest of faculty teaching Filipino course. The level of human interest was adapted from the formula of Rudolf Flesch which is the basis of developing a teacher guide. The data were gathered from the video recorded class session of nine (9) faculty from the different campuses of Mariano Marcos State University. The transcribed data was from the video-recorded class session of Filipino faculty. From the transcription, sample pages were determined through counting one hundred (100) words. In a way, the sample pages were the basis to identify the personal words and personal sentences in which these words are the elements in determining the level of human interest. The results indicate that generally, Filipino faculty had highly interesting level of human interest on their teacher talk. In which, the results were the basis to developed a teacher’s guide for those faculty who had lower level of human interest as described as dull or mildly interesting. The researcher developed a teacher’s guide and was evaluated by panel of experts. The result was then accepted as a pattern in developing a guide on the courses that they are going to teach. The used of personal word such as “natin” signify an integrative learned experienced while she teaches. On the other hand, the used of personal sentences on a kind of interrogative or imperative must also have a personal pronoun. This will yield the simplification on the statement or words needed to use by the teacher on the course of teaching. It is recommended to adapt the formula of Flesch which serve as a guide for understanding the level of human interest on the aspect in teaching language. Therefore, the lesson will lead into understanding the concept and students will be more interactive, cooperative and collaborative at the end.
