Abstract
Family being the basic unit of the society plays a vital role in rearing the future of the motherland. That is why many researchers inveted their time on topics related to family. As such, this study was implemented to describe the familial approaches to social and emotional adaptation among elementary graders. It was conducted at Carmen Central Elementary School in Carmen, Cotabato. This aimed to describe how familial approaches affect the social and emotional adaptation of the elementary learners. It also determined the familial approaches that greatly affect their social and emotional adaptation. This case study revealed that familial approaches affect the social and emotional adaptation of learners when their parents are constantly present to care for, love, mentor, and meet their needs and when they were disciplined in a positive and appropriate manner. Aside from families, friends play an important role in the emotional and social development of elementary students because they provide advice, motivation, and happiness. Moreover, the familial approaches that greatly affect the social and emotional adaptation are strict parenting, supportive family, and an overprotective family. Those parents who are authoritarian and have imposed serious control over their child’s socialization with peers. Results indicate that there are times when children should be restrained, disciplined, or controlled, but not always since they also need to go through other experiences that will help them learn and develop. Thus, it is very important for a parent to know how to treat their children properly.
