ISPSC, Provincial government strengthen research ties for fisheries development

ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero met with Ilocos Sur Governor Jerry Singson and Provincial Administrator Marlon Tagorda today, May 28, to reinforce collaboration on fisheries research based at the ISPSC Narvacan Campus.

The discussion focused on conserving the ludong (lobed river mullet or Cestraeus plicatilis), an endangered freshwater fish that feeds on algae in river rapids. Another native species, bulidaw or pigek, is also part of the research projects.

Governor Singson expressed support for ISPSC’s initiatives and committed to providing equipment for the ludong conservation project. Additional funding from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur is also being considered.

The partnership is expected to boost ISPSC’s role in advancing fisheries research and protecting aquatic resources in Ilocos Sur.
