  • Radyo Kailian boosts operations, hires new technician

Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur – DZNF 97.3 Radyo Kailian, in February 2018, recruited a new licensed radio operator in the name of Mr. Zarbhie M. Curimao, to enhance the radio’s operation standards. This is after the former technician has left the station due to performance reasons. Mr. Curimao, a native of Burgos, Ilocos Norte, is a graduate of TESDA-based Electronics Communication Technology at Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trade.

The tasks assigned to Mr. Curimao include ensuring that the station remains on-air without technical hiccups that could affect the programmed production and transmission, monitor and ensure the maintenance of radio equipment, rooms and facilities, and transmission site.

According to Mr. Ephraine Hyacinth Chavez, assistant station manager, the expertise needed from Curimao significantly helps in the station’s daily processes, especially in ensuring that the nutrition programs are regularly aired and updated. Radio technicians, in the first place, are inseparable members of radio stations and their operations.

Mr. Curimao’s hiring is also a move to warrant that Radyo Kailian obeys the operation standards imposed by the National Telecommunications Commission.

Currently, the station is manned by the station manager (Mrs. Annabelle Francisco), assistant station manager (Mr. Ephraine Chavez), Technical Division Head (Engr. Gina Mae Villanueva), Radio Technician (Mr. Zarbhie Curimao), and IT staff (Mr. Adrian Delos Santos). Consultants, in the persons of Dr. Gloria D. Tuzon and Dr. Francisco D. Lopez, and Ms. Irene Blanco, guide in the radio’s operations. Writers and radio announcers, meanwhile, consist of faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and students from ISPSC, and guests from partner government agencies.

It can be recalled that Radyo Kailian is a community radio whose mission is to become a medium for advocating health and nutrition among the Ilokanos, and thus, empowering them to become productive members of their communities. For its part, Radyo Kailian, as a catalyst of sustainable development through responsible community radio broadcasting, ensures that its workforce is enough and intact to fulfill this goal; hence, the hiring.
