  • ISPSC strengthens research ethics through capacity-building program

    The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, through its Research Ethics Committee (REC), conducted "Advancing Ethical Excellence: Capacity Building for Ethics Reviewer Mentoring Program" on July 7, 2026, at the RDETC Building, Main Campus.

    The program aimed to enhance the competencies of ethics reviewers and reinforce ethical standards in research through expert-led discussions and collaborative review sessions which featured lecture series with Dr. Joel C. Estacio, Dean of the College of Health and Allied Medical Sciences. Dr. Estacio discussed the fundamentals of research ethics review focusing on principles, standards and REC responsibilities and best practices of research ethics review: case analysis, common issues, and quality review process. 

    The activity also included the review and presentation of the REC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual to ensure alignment with current ethical standards and institutional requirements.

    The Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, led by Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor and Dr. Mandy Roie Atendido, Chief of Research Ethics, initiated the training which aimed to strengthen ethical research governance and to foster a culture of research excellence across ISPSC.
