  • ISPSC strengthens quality assurance through AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Workshop

    The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) strengthened its commitment to quality assurance by participating in the 1st Workshop on University's IQA Implementation in the Philippines Utilizing the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3, held on July 14–16, 2026 at Marikina Polytechnic College for the Luzon Cluster.

    Organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Secretariat, SEAMEO-RIHED, the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), the workshop equipped Philippine higher education institutions with strategies and tools to strengthen their Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) systems using the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3.

    Representing ISPSC were Mr. Kris Kringle T. Lopez, Director of Quality Assurance; Dr. Maribel M. Gagto, Chief of the Institutional Government-Initiated Accreditation Unit; and Mr. Charles Janzen J. Rosario, Chief of the International Accreditation and ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance Unit.

    Throughout the three-day workshop, participants explored the Philippine higher education quality assurance landscape, the AUN-QA IQA Toolkit Version 1.3 Building Blocks, and best practices from leading ASEAN universities. The program also featured peer-learning sessions and collaborative workshops where institutions developed customized IQA action plans tailored to their respective organizations. Quality assurance experts from AUN, SEAMEO-RIHED, AQAN, Mahidol University, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, and the University of Santo Tomas facilitated the sessions.

    A key highlight of the workshop was the message of CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, who shared insights from her participation in the UNESCO Transforming Education Summit +4 (TES+4) in Paris, France. Dr. Agrupis underscored the Philippines' commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) by advancing inclusive, equitable, and quality education through stronger quality assurance systems, innovation, and international collaboration.

    The workshop empowered participating institutions to institutionalize robust IQA systems, strengthen evidence-based decision-making, build responsive quality assurance structures, and foster collaboration through the establishment of Quality Summit Circles (QSCs).

    Through its active participation, ISPSC continues to reinforce its culture of quality, align its internal quality assurance initiatives with ASEAN and international standards, and advance its pursuit of academic excellence and global competitiveness.
