  • President Obrero joins Abel-Iloko Exhibit Opening, affirms support for Ilocano heritage

    ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero joined the opening of the upgraded Abel-Iloko Exhibition at the National Museum of the Philippines – Ilocos in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on September 19, 2026.

    The event brought together Acting Governor SPM Janina Medina-Farinas, City Councilor Ignacio Tadeo, City Councilor Nestor Pajaro, Ilocos Norte Tourism Officer Ian Raquel, ISCC College Administrator Dr. Roel Palo Anicas, Ms. Nicole Savellano, artisans from Abra and La Union, and Ilocano weavers in celebrating the enduring tradition and cultural significance of Abel Iloko.

    The exhibition highlights the enduring tradition of Abel Iloko, showcasing the artistry of Ilocano weavers and the cultural history woven into every fabric. The event featured the participation of government officials, tourism stakeholders, artisans, weavers, and representatives from academic institutions in support of efforts to preserve and further showcase Ilocano weaving and its place in the region’s cultural heritage.

    President Obrero’s participation reflects ISPSC’s continuing support for initiatives that connect education, culture, and tourism, particularly through the College’s Tourism Management program and its engagement with local cultural heritage. Through these efforts, ISPSC recognizes Abel Iloko not only as a traditional craft but also as a living expression of Ilocano identity, history, and values.
