ISPSC Educators receive honors, top research awards at 2025 UNIFIED Summit in New York

Faculty members from the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) brought pride to the college as they received multiple international recognitions during the 2025 United Federation of Fil-Am Educators (UNIFFIED) International Educators Summit, Gala, and Awards Night held in New York City, May 25.

With the theme “Breaking Boundaries. Leading Change. Innovating Solutions,” this year’s summit gathered Filipino and Filipino-American educators from around the world to honor excellence in education, leadership, and community service.

Dr. Daniel Juan B. Ramirez, faculty member of ISPSC Tagudin Campus and current ISPSC Faculty Trustee, was honored with the Rising to the Challenge of Excellence in Education Award. This award recognizes educators with a maximum of ten years of teaching experience who have demonstrated exemplary performance and a strong commitment to advancing education through innovation and creativity. He was also recognized with a Service Award for his eight years of dedicated service to the organization. In addition, he was named one of the International Salindunong Honorees, an accolade that celebrates educators who exemplify a lifelong commitment to knowledge-sharing and academic mentorship.

Meanwhile, Dr. Christian C. Gandeza, also from the ISPSC Tagudin Campus and currently serving as the Special Assistant to the President and Director of the Extension Office, received the Outstanding Leadership in Community Service Award. This award honors individuals who have made a significant and positive impact on their communities through dedicated leadership and service.

ISPSC researchers also gained international attention through their strong performance in the conference’s academic presentations. In the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics strand, Dr. Ramirez earned top awards for Best Research Presenter, Best Abstract, and Best Research Paper for his study.

In the General Academic Strand, Dr. A. Jonathan S. Pagatpatan, along with Peter Paul Lazo, Arthur Pascua, Sherwin Peña, and Jona Rante from ISPSC Santa Maria Campus, secured third place for Best Research Paper with their study titled “Facing the Future: How Non-IT Proficient Teachers Cope with AI Chatbots in Education.” Mr. Pagatpatan personally received the award on behalf of the group.

ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero, himself a member of UNIFFIED, expressed great pride in the achievements of the ISPSC faculty members. He emphasized that these awards are a reflection not just of personal accomplishment but of “ISPSC’s collective vision of producing globally competent educators who create meaningful impact in their communities”.

Hosted by UNIFFIED, a non-profit organization of dedicated educators, in partnership with Metropolitan College of New York, the initiative aims to unite professionals with a shared mission of uplifting communities through quality teaching, professional development, and outreach programs.
