    NEWS ISPSC Seals MOA with Ilocos Sur High Schools for HAPAG-KAINAN Project

    In a commitment to promote sustainable agriculture and community nutrition, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with four DepEd Philippines schools: San Esteban National High School, Santa Maria National High School, Burgos National High School, and Santiago National High School on June 16, 2025.

    The agreement, effective for a period of three years, outlines the implementation of the HAPAG (HaliNa’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay) KAINAN (Kasama Ako, Ikaw, Nag-aaral at Nagtuturo) Program in various DepEd schools and barangays in Ilocos Sur. As part of this initiative, recipient schools and barangays will benefit from capability-building seminars, training sessions, and the distribution of fruit trees, vegetable seeds and seedlings, vermicompost, organic concoctions, and other agricultural inputs.

    Present during the MoA signing were Mr. Richard D. Dela Cruz, Center Chief of the Tobacco and Agricultural Research Center and Project Leader; Dr. Milagros O. Liberato, Director for Research; Dr. Mary Ruth O. Menor, Dr. Analyn D. Abella, Mr. Albert G. Naungayan, and Mr. Cresencio G. Tumalip, all project staff.

    Representing the partner schools were Dr. Manolito L. Peña (Burgos National High School), Dr. Natividad B. Reyes (Santiago National High School), Dr. Maria Donalene B. Bernal (San Esteban National High School), and Dr. Perla B. Peña (Santa Maria National High School).

    The ceremony also marked a partnership with Barangay Danuman East, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, graced by Barangay Captain Warlito T. Somera, with Dr. Liberato and Mr. Dela Cruz leading the project roll-out at the community level.

    The project, under ISPSC’s extension arm, aims to empower schools and communities with sustainable agricultural practices, food security initiatives, and nutrition education. (JGP)
