ISPSC undergoes ISO9001:2015 External Surveillance Audit

To ensure continued compliance with ISO standards and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), led by President Mario P. Obrero, opened its External Surveillance Audit at the Main Campus, June 16, 2025.

The audit is conducted in partnership with W3 Solutionz which is an independent ISO certification body authorized to assess organizational compliance and offer accredited certification services including ISO 9001:2015.

The opening meeting began with Dr. Sheryl Morata, Campus Director of ISPSC Main Campus, who welcomed participants and introduced the top management officials: Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Filipinas M. Gasalao, Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor, and Vice President for Administrative and Finance Dr. Jonathan L. Dela Cruz.

Dr. Emed Manzano, Director for Quality Assurance, introduced the audit team from W3 Solutionz: Ms. Cristy Rioja, Team Leader, and Ms. Monette Marasigan, Team Member, who will lead the assessment of ISPSC’s quality management system (QMS) through a structured and comprehensive audit plan.

Ms. Rioja outlined the key objectives of the audit, which include verifying ISPSC’s compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements, reviewing the conduct of internal audits and management reviews, evaluating risk and opportunity management, and assessing the overall effectiveness of the college’s management system in achieving institutional goals and ensuring operational control.

In addition, Ms. Rioja emphasized the importance of open communication and transparency throughout the audit process.

A particular focus of this year’s audit includes a review of the college’s preparedness in addressing climate change which is a new requirement under the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

The two-day audit, running until June 17, includes interviews and discussions with department heads, a review of data and performance records, verification of staff training and competence, and a site tour to other campuses to assess operational alignment with ISO standards.

The outcome of the surveillance audit will provide ISPSC with valuable insights into the strengths and potential areas for improvement within its management system as it moves toward becoming the University of Ilocos Philippines (UIP). (Ralph Nicole A. Sevilla)
