  • ISPSC holds SOCA, unveils coffee initiative on President’s Day

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) reported institutional progress and outlined its direction during the State of the College Address (SOCA) on March 27 at the ISPSC Cervantes Campus, alongside the launch of Kape de Cervantes.

ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero presented key updates on the College’s performance, citing gains in enrollment, licensure examination results, and full compliance of academic programs, alongside continuing efforts in research, extension, and infrastructure development.

“The state of our College is strong, not because we are without challenges, but because we face them together,” Dr. Obrero said, emphasizing collective effort in advancing institutional goals.

He also reiterated ISPSC’s goal of attaining university status, saying the College is strengthening its programs, research, and institutional capacity in preparation for its transition to the University of Ilocos Philippines.

The SOCA coincided with the launch of Kape de Cervantes, a campus-based coffee initiative rooted in a 2.5-hectare plantation with over 3,000 Robusta coffee trees. Developed through sustainable and chemical-free processes such as hand-picking, sun-drying, and honey processing, the project promotes locally grown coffee while supporting agricultural innovation and community development.

Initiated in 2020 through a partnership between ISPSC and the Department of Agriculture, the project aims to develop the area into an eco-tourism hub.

Key officials, faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders were present during the activity.

The activity followed the opening of President’s Day on March 26, which featured a recollection and thanksgiving mass, a campus dialogue between students and administrators, and a leadership and journalism seminar. (JGP)
