  • ISPSC seals partnership with Northern Luzon HEIs for IP education

Strengthening its commitment to Indigenous People Education and regional academic collaboration, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), through its Indigenous People Education Research Center (IPEDRC), joined the signing of the AMIANAN Consortium Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 19, 2026, in La Trinidad.

The event gathered 14 higher education institutions from Regions I, II, and the Cordillera Administrative Region to formalize the AMIANAN Consortium, a regional platform for collaboration in research, extension, and initiatives that support Indigenous communities and preserve cultural heritage across Northern Luzon.

Participating institutions from Region I included Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Mariano Marcos State University, University of Northern Philippines, Lorma Colleges, Pangasinan Polytechnic College, Panpacific University, and Union Christian College. Joining from Region II was Saint Mary's University, while institutions from the Cordillera Administrative Region included Baguio Central University, Benguet State University, Cordillera Career Development College, Divine Word College of Bangued, and University of the Cordilleras.

Representing ISPSC during the activity were Dr. Jocelyn Absolor, Vice President for Research Development and Extension; Dr. Englebert B. Mangaldan, Director of IPEDRC; Dr. Jonalyn Sad-ayan-Lacambra, Chief of Policy and Rights Advocacy; Ms. Rinbeth S. Riva, Chief of Educational Development and Linkages; and Ms. Esperanza G. Pusayen, Chief of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Heritage.

One of the highlights of the event was the election of consortium officers, where Dr. Mangaldan was elected as Deputy Director for Region I.

As ISPSC’s dedicated center for Indigenous People Education, the IPEDRC continues to strengthen research, extension, and advocacy initiatives in the preservation of Indigenous knowledge systems and cultural heritage. (JGP)
