  • ISPSC strengthens curriculum quality through OBE training

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) conducted the Intensive Training of Trainers on Outcomes-Based Syllabus Development, Assessment, and Curriculum Harmonization on June 24–25, 2026, at the RDETC Building in ISPSC Main Campus, to demonstrate commitment to excellence and quality assurance.

The two-day capability-building activity gathered academic leaders, program chairs, and curriculum developers of all the campuses to strengthen their competencies in outcomes-based education (OBE), assessment design, and curriculum alignment.

Serving as the resource speaker and trainer was Dr. Rhoda B. Galangco, Director for Curriculum and Instruction of Mountain Province State University (MPSU), who shared her expertise on developing outcomes-based syllabi, constructing assessment tools for major course outcomes, and harmonizing curricula to support quality assurance initiatives.

The program commenced through a message from Dr. Jonathan L. Dela Cruz, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who underscored the significance of curriculum enhancement in producing competent and future-ready graduates.

The activity was formally introduced by Dr. Geremy G. Sanchez, Director for Instruction.

The first day of the training focused on “Designing and Developing Outcomes-Based Syllabi,” which targeted crafting of course syllabi aligned with program outcomes and institutional goals, followed by presentations and critiquing sessions to refine their outputs.

On the second day, the training centered on “Developing Assessment Tools for Major Course Outcomes (MCOs)”. Participants explored strategies for creating valid and reliable assessment instruments that effectively measure student learning outcomes.

In line with quality assurance and internationalization, the training also included a presentation on “AUN-QA: A Pathway Towards Internationally Recognized Academic Excellence” facilitated by the Office of Quality Assurance, represented by Mr. Charles Janzen Rosario, Chief for International Accreditation/ (AUN-QA).

Interactive and intensive workshops with output presentations also enabled participants to apply concepts learned throughout the training while receiving constructive feedback from the resource speaker and peers, which was facilitated by Dr. Alma M. Pasahol, Chief for Instructional Materials and Evaluation Committee.

The training forms part of ISPSC’s continuing efforts to enhance instructional quality and ensure that academic programs remain responsive to national and international standards. (MVB)
