The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, in partnership with GUMIL Filipinas, hosted the organization’s 58th anniversary celebration through Tungtongan 2026 on October 16–17, 2026, at the Hostel Building, ISPSC Main Campus.

The two-day event gathered 200 delegates, including writers, researchers, educators, students, and advocates of Ilokano language and literature.

Anchored on the theme, “GF@58: Ilokano in the Age of Change in Literature, Language, AI, and the Future,” the celebration featured lectures, research presentations, cultural performances, and the soft launching of six literary and linguistic publications.

The publications launched were Dagiti Kapintasan a Sarita nga Ilokano iti Bannawag (1961–1968): Maikadua nga Edision; Didigra: Antolohia Dagiti Sarita nga Ilokano; Sagut: Antolohia Dagiti Sarita ken Ababa a Sarita Dagiti Mannurat ti GUMIL Pangasinan; Silaw ti Bulan, a collection of poems by Dimple G. Famajilan; Rissik ti Essem, a novel by Prodie Gar. Padios; and Linggustika Ilokana by 2024 Pedro Bucaneg Awardee Joel B. Manuel.

The gathering also fostered camaraderie among delegates and provided a platform for sharing research that highlighted the importance of literature in understanding and preserving Ilokano culture, identity, values, and heritage.

Founded on October 19, 1968, GUMIL Filipinas continues to uphold its mission of nurturing and advancing Ilokano language and literature while safeguarding the rich cultural heritage of the Ilokano people for future generations.

Through its partnership with GUMIL Filipinas, ISPSC continues to advance Sustainable Development Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, particularly the protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals by highlighting the value of collaboration between higher education institutions and cultural organizations in promoting research, knowledge-sharing, and heritage preservation.
